<p><b>Ny side</b></p><div>Slaget ved Værebro fandt sted i 1133. Kong Niels (konge 1103-1134) var med 100 skibe kommet ned gennem Roskilde Fjord, hvor han mellem Værebro og Kølholm slog Erik Harefod, som var en halvbror til den myrdede Knud Lavard.<br />

Saxo skriver: "Da vinteren var ovre, sejlede Niels til Sjælland med en stor jysk flåde, ivrig efter at få hævn for den krænkelse det var at en del af riget i lang tid havde unddraget sig hans styre. Ved Værebro blev Erik besejret i et voldsomt slag, og da han sammen med sin hustru, den tidligere dronning af Norge, og sin lille søn Sven, som han havde fået med en elskerinde, i tillid til slægtskabet søgt tilflugt hos kong Magnus, mødte han først venlighed og gæstfrihed, men snart efter falskhed og forræderi."<br />
Erik blev senere konge i Danmark fra 1134-37 under navnet Erik 2. Emune, dvs. den mindeværdige (men hvad han blev mindet for, det gode eller det onde, står hen i det uvisse).<br />
